It is a privilege to introduce Professor Hakim Khan Afridi, Professor and Chairman, Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology at the Khyber Medical College.

With over 25 years of academic and medico-legal experience, Professor Afridi has played a transformative role in advancing forensic medicine in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He currently leads a pioneering department that integrates modern forensic education with advanced practical training, including DNA profiling and toxicology services, making it a national hub for academic and applied forensic sciences.

A graduate (MBBS) of Khyber Medical College, he holds a Diploma in Medical Jurisprudence from the University of the Punjab, an FCPS in Forensic Medicine from the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan, and a Diploma in Mental Health. Over the years, he has progressed from Demonstrator and Medico-legal Officer to Professor and Chairman, while also serving as Associate Dean (Undergraduate) and holding multiple key administrative positions.

He has established several landmark forensic facilities in KPK, including the first forensic DNA laboratory, a state-of-the-art forensic microscopy unit, a modern toxicology laboratory, a mass calamity management hall, a 50+ body cold storage facility, and the province’s first Anti-Rape Cell. His department also provides extensive medico-legal consultation to courts and law enforcement agencies, including autopsies, age estimation, sexual assault examinations, DNA profiling, and exhumations.

Professor Afridi serves as Visiting Faculty at the KP Judicial Academy, Consultant to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and member of various regulatory and inspection bodies including the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council. He is an active researcher with numerous publications in national and international journals, particularly in firearm deaths, poisoning, asphyxial deaths, and forensic identification.

Through his academic leadership, institutional development, and medico-legal expertise, Professor Hakim Khan Afridi has significantly strengthened the interface between forensic medicine and the justice system in Pakistan.
