Peshawar | June 23, 2026
A delegation of The Awakening – A Society for Social & Cultural Development, a Swat-based civil society organisation working on women's rights, legal empowerment, and access to justice, visited the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy (KPJA) for a coordination meeting.
The delegation was led by Ms. Neelum Rahim, Chairperson, accompanied by Ms. Samreen Hakim, Consultant. They were received by Mr. Jehanzeb Shinwari, Director General KPJA, along with Mr. Ahmed Iftikhar, Dean Faculty, and Mr. Wajid Ali, Director Administration.
During the meeting, the delegation briefed the Academy on its UNDEF-funded project, "Strengthening Land Rights and Access to Justice for Women in Pakistan," being implemented in Swat, Dir, Malakand, Mardan, and Charsadda. The project focuses on raising legal awareness, facilitating access to legal aid, and promoting the enforcement of women's land and inheritance rights.
Both sides discussed opportunities for future collaboration in the areas of judicial training, legal awareness, and women's access to justice. It was agreed that The Awakening would share its training materials, project proposals, and a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for review by the Academy. Future joint initiatives will be explored following the review process.
Director General Mr. Jehanzeb Shinwari appreciated the organisation's efforts to promote women's legal rights and access to justice. Shields were exchanged at the conclusion of the meeting as a gesture of goodwill and institutional cooperation.
KPJA remains committed to strengthening partnerships with organisations working to advance the rule of law and improve access to justice across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
