02-Day Training on Court & Case Management for Judicial Officers (21-22 September, 2017) concluded

Three days training on "Court & Case Management" for Judicial Officers from 20th to 22nd, September 2017  concluded at KP Judicial Academy, Peshawar. Twenty five  judicial officers from various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa  participated in the training.
Background Aim and Objectives of the Training Course:-From commencement of litigation to its resolution, whether by trial or settlement, any elapse of time other than reasonably required for pleadings, discovery and court events, is unacceptable and should be eliminated.           To enable just and efficient resolution of cases, the courts, not the lawyers or the litigants should control the pace of litigation. A strong judicial commitment is essential to reducing delay and, once, achieved it would help in the just and quality dispensation of cases in its stipulated time. No doubt the quality of justice has a direct nexus with the quality of service that the courts’ delivers. The more competent judge delivers better while the most competent would deliver the best.
A judge must be competent, skillful and efficient on expediency and  delay reduction, so as to restore confidence of the people. That’s why the manual was revised- pre trial conferences and trial scheduling is prime consideration for answering timely and quality adjudication.
The KP Academy’s Faculty has exceptionally qualified and richly experienced permanent as well as visiting members. Both delivered lectures during the training. It has preferred judges over purely academic personalities. The reason is obvious. Judges could better understand day to day difficulties faced by the courts. They can easily diagnose the disease and could skillfully treat it. Most of the trainers have been teaching in the Academy since its inception. With regard to the methodology of the training(s), the resource persons opted for a participatory approach. With regard to the methodology of the training, all the resource persons focused on practical aspect of learning more than theory. Group discussions were also conducted.           Each and every session was followed by a question answer session. On 20th and 22nd, 2017, impressive concluding ceremonies were held.
The Director General felicitated the trainees on successful completion of their respective training. On both the occasion Class Representative (CR) presented the viewpoint on behalf of the participants. Certificates were distributed amongst the participants.         They were seen off by Director General and other Faculty members with the urge to apply the techniques of case and court management learnt during the training.

03-Day Training on Case & Court Management for Judicial Officers (18-21 September, 2017) concluded

Three Days  training on Case & Court Management for Judicial Officers from 18th to 20th September, 2017 concluded at KP Judicial Academy, Peshawar. Twenty Five  judicial officers from various districts  of the Province  participated in the training.
Background, Aim and Objectives of the Training Course:-  Previously with the support of UNDP, the Judicial Academy had successfully rolled out five days training on ‘Case and Court Management’ for Civil Judges cum Judicial Magistrates. However, in the due course of training it was realized that the trainees require more in-depth training on a particular subject area or areas of case management particularly pre and in trial proceedings in both civil and criminal cases in order to ensure courts meet their fundamental obligations to administer justice in a reasonable time.
The focus was meant to ensure expediency, backlog and delay reduction, so as to restore confidence of the people. On the basis of experience learnt from the previous training conducted in the last week of July this year and in the light of feedback, the need was felt to conduct specialized training on case management. Therefore, by taking on board, our collaborating partner, UNDP, we decided to arrange extensive lectures on Pre-trial (Civil), Civil Trial, Pre-Trial (Criminal), and Criminal Trial Case Management Techniques, focusing on conferencing & scheduling. By doing so we not only trained 50 judges within the allocated budget for 25 participants but also succeeded in identification of the challenges making participants understand significance of case management techniques through dormant provision of the available legal framework.
The first part of the report is introductory; the second part is divided into three separate sections, i.e. proceedings of the trainings, synopses of the lecture delivered and individual resource person evaluation. The third part encompasses a consolidated evaluation report. The last part of this report is the pictorial of training and the group photos. They were specifically trained to exercise more authority and proficiency on an array of delay reduction tools.
The present report as such encompasses the activities of the focused training, conducted in September 2017. We hope that the impact study to be conducted after six months will reflect how useful this specialized activity was.
